Health care for all
Last week, we delivered a crushing defeat to Donald Trump’s disastrous health care plan, saving health coverage for millions of Americans.
The Republicans lost fair and square. They had seven years to propose a health care plan that works for the American people. Instead, they delivered a plan to take away coverage from 24 million people to make room for tax cuts for CEOs of big insurance companies. We stood up for our values and fought back every step of the way – and thanks to an unbeatable grassroots movement – we won.
We can and should celebrate the Republicans’ spectacular failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act – but make no mistake, they’re coming back with a vengeance. That’s why it’s so crucial for us to organize and build a movement to expand healthcare, improve Medicare, strengthen Social Security, and secure health care as a right to all people – not just the wealthy few.
Finally, we must create a public option, paving the way to single-payer, so American’s can have medical coverage outside of the for-profit insurance industry. With your support, I’m keeping up the fight for the victories ahead. We must examine all of our options for increasing access to affordable insurance for all Americans which is why I co-sponsored the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act. I hope this will pave the way for a serious discussion of single payer during the 2018 election cycle.
