DeFazio Accepts Debate Invitation From Democratic Party Committees

(Eugene, OR)- Congressman Peter DeFazio today accepted invitations from local Democrats to participate in Democratic Primary debates. The Benton County Democrats and Oregon State University (OSU) College Democrats offered to sponsor and moderate a debate on the OSU campus. The Democratic Party of Lane County and University of Oregon (UO) College Democrats offered to sponsor and moderate a debate on the UO campus.

The invitations were extended to the DeFazio and Matthew-Art Robinson campaigns.

Earlier this week Matthew Robinson challenged DeFazio to debate him at both Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.

"The Democrats have said they are happy to sponsor debates and I have accepted. If the Robinsons want to negotiate the format, they can talk to the county parties," said DeFazio.

Since Matthew is acting as a surrogate, DeFazio also asked Art Robinson to participate in the debates to represent and defend his views. Despite assurances that the two Robinson campaigns are separate, the campaigns share the same campaign manager, share the same address, Art Robinson has fundraised for Matthew from his contributor list, and they share the same exact political views. According to the Register Guard, Matthew Robinson "couldn’t identify any major political difference" between himself and his father.

As Independent as Oregon.

Peter DeFazio's common-sense proposals aim to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health care and develop options outside of the for-profit marketplace, restore economic and educational opportunities, hold government accountable and tip the scales of inequality back in favor of hard-working Oregonians.
