My opponent’s views on women’s rights:

Every woman in America has the right to make her own decisions when it comes to her body, pregnancy, and parenthood.

My opponent, Art Robinson, doesn’t feel the same way – and he doesn’t mince words. He describes himself as “completely pro-life, in every regard,” and opposes any right to terminate pregnancy. And yes, that’s including pregnancies caused by rape and incest:

“What about rape? Here liberty and life conflict. I believe that life is more important than liberty in this case. Yes, the woman has been seriously injured, and carrying a child to term is an additional burden. She should be compensated very generously for this injury and for this burden. ” – Art Robinson

This extreme anti-choice position is completely out of touch. If Robinson had his way, women’s right to choose would be a thing of the past, and survivors of sexual assault would be forced to bear the children of their attacker in exchange for compensation. That’s unconscionable.

We don’t need another rabidly pro-life extremist in Congress. Time and time again, I’ve voted to expand access to affordable reproductive health care, opposed arbitrary abortion restrictions, and stood with Planned Parenthood in the face of deceptive attacks.

My record on this issue has earned me a 100% rating from NARAL and I look forward to keeping up the fight in Congress. With your support, that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Peter DeFazio's common-sense proposals aim to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health care and develop options outside of the for-profit marketplace, restore economic and educational opportunities, hold government accountable and tip the scales of inequality back in favor of hard-working Oregonians.
