Peter DeFazio for Congress

Investing in America

For too long, our economy has benefited the richest of the rich while leaving too many Main Street Americans behind. In Congress, I'm fighting for an economy that provides every American with the opportunity to build a better life.

As we look ahead to the future, I want to share an interesting report with you from the Center for American Progress – which outlines how economic hardship for many working Americans led to the 2016 election outcome, and identifies progressive solutions to those challenges.

The short version is this: Since 2000, workers without a college degree have seen their incomes fall and unemployment increase. Weakened labor protections, changing technology, and unfair trade agreements have all led to fewer good-paying jobs for workers without a four-year college degree.

In response, the report calls for a new Marshall Plan for jobs and community investment. There are plenty of needed positions that people without a college degree can fill: senior care, carpenters and labors, child care, medical records technician, teachers' aides, manufacturing, and many more. These jobs and workers are a crucial part of our economy and society which is why I'm calling for increased investment in job training and other employment programs. It's time to expand access to greater economic opportunities for everyone in this country!

Check out the report and let me know what you think.
