Fight sexual harassment on public transportation! [Petition]

The #MeToo and TimesUp reckoning is long overdue, and I'm grateful for and humbled by the courage of the women who have spoken out for justice.

While much of the coverage has focused on Washington and Hollywood, harassment happens everywhere, unfortunately – including on public transportation. That's why I've introduced the Stop Sexual Assault and Harassment in Transportation Act.

Sign my petition telling Congress, "Pass the Stop Sexual Assault and Harassment in Transportation Act!"

The bill requires transportation providers to develop formal policies to address and prevent sexual assault and harassment and to have clear reporting procedures. Further, the bill tightens penalties for offenders.

The numbers are sobering: More than two-thirds of flight attendants say they have experienced sexual harassment during their careers, and nearly one in five reports that they've had to address passenger-on-passenger claims of harassment in the air.

The number one goal in the transportation of people, whether it is across town or across an ocean, must be safety. From ferries to subways to airlines to buses, we must act now to keep our public transportation safe for all riders and all employees.

Sign the petition! Demand Congress pass the Stop Sexual Assault and Harassment in Transportation Act.
