Despite what Donald Trump tweets

Despite what Donald Trump tweets, his own administration’s report shows climate change is a growing existential threat to the entire planet. It’s impacting our health, agriculture, infrastructure, and will deal a massive blow to our economy.

We need a dramatic change in policy to address the growing, existential threat of climate change.

A decade ago I was one of the first sponsors of a mandatory cap on emissions and a carbon tax. I was an original member of the first Climate Change Caucus in the House. But with climate deniers in the White House, the Senate and the House, we need renewed energy and activism to achieve real change.

So, I’m thrilled to see the new generation of Democratic leaders with the guts to challenge the status quo and advocate for serious action. We need everyone working to solve this issue which is why I support the creation of a select committee to combat climate change.

When the new Congress starts, I’ll be working with them for massive federal investment in new technologies and a radical reduction in greenhouse gasses. As the chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’m prepared to take on wealthy special interests and take the necessary steps to protect our nation and our planet.

Climate change is the single most pressing issue of our time. And with every day that Republicans deny the realities of science, the problem gets more urgent.

I’m looking forward to fighting side by side with my new colleagues for the bold ideas and innovation that will address climate change head on, before it’s too late.

In solidarity,

Peter
