Peter DeFazio for Congress, Oregon's 4th

I'm proud to announce that I'm an original co-sponsor of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal resolution which outlines a 10-year plan to mobilize our country and take bold action to address climate change. We can transition to renewable energy while creating jobs and growing our economy.

Recent reports are clear: we must drastically reduce carbon emissions or face an increase of 7 degrees in surface temperatures – causing drought, intensifying catastrophic weather events, decimating crop yields, and impacting fundamental aspects of our infrastructure and economy.

Yet the Trump administration and climate change deniers in Congress still refuse to act. We need to mobilize and come together to face this issue head-on.

As Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I know we can rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and reduce greenhouse gases at the same time. That's why I've directed all six subcommittees to investigate ways to reduce fossil fuel consumption and address the impacts of climate change.

The cost of inaction is too great, and this is the first step. It's time to rebuild our country to preserve our world.
