Restoring net neutrality

Just over a year ago, Donald Trump's FCC reversed net neutrality rules that were put in place to keep the Internet open, free and fair for all Americans. That decision allows telecom giants to charge additional fees to visit certain sites, and block other sites completely.

In other words, the FCC gave corporations the right to control our access to information – what shows we watch, where we get our news, and even download speed to essentially controlling your Internet experience. And that's all to pad their profits.

I was proud to co-sponsor the Save the Internet Act of 2019 to restore net neutrality and a free and open Internet. I've said from the beginning that allowing huge telecom companies to control the Internet was a mistake.

Unsurprisingly, telecom giants like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T spent millions lobbying their stooges to try to water the bill down with amendments and loopholes.

It didn't work.

Two weeks ago, the Save the Internet Act was passed the House and now it moves on to the Senate for a vote.

I've never stopped fighting for net neutrality in Congress and I'll always stand up for your right to access the resources of the Internet.

Thank you for standing with me,

Peter
