And Iran vowed "severe revenge"

I've long been concerned about the growing tensions between the US and Iran — since well before Donald Trump was elected.

But those concerns have gotten much more urgent in light of Trump's reckless insistence on escalating conflict with Iran.

Last year, he unilaterally withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal.

Then he imposed crippling sanctions.

Then he engaged in a series of tit-for-tat proxy strikes in the region.

This week, his administration announced that the president ordered the assassination of Iran's top military official, Qassem Soleimani.

And now, Iran has vowed revenge.

The decision to put our troops in harm's way is too important to rest with one person. Especially when that person is Donald Trump.

That is why I've repeatedly introduced the War Powers Amendment to reinforce Congress's constitutionally-granted authority to declare war.

Sign my petition to demand that Congress reclaim the power of checks and balances and pass the War Powers Act.

The American people deserve to know the full scope of any potential conflict — including an exit strategy — before the U.S. considers another military campaign in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. We don't want another endless war.

Enough is enough. It's time for Congress to reassert that the power to declare and wage war belongs where the Constitution put it: in the hands of the elected leaders in Congress.

Add your name to demand Congress pass the War Powers Act and take back its constitutionally-granted war-making authority.
