I am bringing 70,000 jobs to Oregon

The big news: the House has passed my legislation, the Moving Forward Act, which is the House Democrats' plan to fix what's broken in our country.

This means strengthening our communities and moving them into the 21st Century. Developing sustainable, adaptable infrastructure we can rely on for decades. And it means creating jobs: under the Moving Forward Act, Oregon will receive $3.6 billion over five years to rebuild our highways and $860 million over five years for transit. Addressing those two needs alone will support nearly 70,000 critical family-wage jobs in Oregon.

Because updating our nation's infrastructure isn't simply about repaving roads and crumbling bridges. It's about people: rebuilding our communities, supporting working people, and making sure that everyone who calls this country home has a fair shot. We have the opportunity to bring a vibrant economy to Oregon that will support families, update the standard of living for everyone, and help the planet.

These are my priorities. That's why I'm fighting so hard every day in Congress to develop opportunities for rural and coastal communities in Oregon and the hardworking people who live there.

As Independent as Oregon.

Peter DeFazio's common-sense proposals aim to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health care and develop options outside of the for-profit marketplace, restore economic and educational opportunities, hold government accountable and tip the scales of inequality back in favor of hard-working Oregonians.
