Skarlatos Ducks Reporters Questions on Why He Opposes COVID Relief

When asked about stimulus aid by KVAL reporter Angelina Dixson, Skarlatos did not respond to questioning

Eugene, Oregon— OR-04 Republican candidate Alek Skarlatos will not answer for his alarming comments opposing another round of federal pandemic relief for struggling families, small businesses, and frontline workers, including stimulus checks, federal unemployment, funding for schools and more, as stated at the Rotary Club of Eugene on September 22. When asked by KVAL reporter Angelina Dixson about a future COVID-19 relief package, Skarlatos did not respond to questions.

“Skarlatos has been avoiding the issues, hiding from voters that he wants to repeal their affordable health care, including protections for preexisting conditions, deny COVID relief to individuals, hospitals and small businesses reeling from the pandemic and eliminate the minimum wage," said Carly Gabrielson, DeFazio for Congress Campaign Manager. “Voters deserve to know where candidates stand on the issues. Whether you agree or disagree with him, you know where Congressman DeFazio stands. Skarlatos remains silent while Oregon workers and families struggle from the pandemic, calculating how long they can make it on limited current savings, unemployment, and federal relief.”

Yesterday, when KVAL reporter Angelina Dixson asked about a future COVID-19 package, Congressman DeFazio responded to questions, while Alek hid, “We would like a more comprehensible package. The big hang-up is 20 right wing senators. And people like my opponent, like Alek Skarlatos, who is tying himself to Ted Cruz, who is the leader to saying, 'no more assistance to people.' Skarlatos said people don't need any more help, everything is just fine," said DeFazio. ”

Dixson then stated, “We reached out to Skarlatos and his team Wednesday, and have yet to hear back.”

Congressman DeFazio has been fighting to make sure Oregonians have the resources they need to get through the pandemic. Since securing the first round of bipartisan aid, including stimulus checks, federal unemployment benefits, and small business relief for Oregonians, the OR-04 Congressman has not stopped fighting for more resources for our district and most recently helped write and voted yes on the Heroes 2.0 Act, which builds on past packages and increases the federal share for FEMA Disaster Assistance to help Oregonians impacted by wildfires. Meanwhile, Alek Skarlatos continues to dodge reporters' questions on issues that matter most, because he does not want voters to know what he really thinks. If elected, he would not support further COVID assistance and allow workers, families, and business owners across Oregon to continue suffering from the consequences of the current Administration's hobbled response to the pandemic.

As Independent as Oregon.

Peter DeFazio's common-sense proposals aim to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health care and develop options outside of the for-profit marketplace, restore economic and educational opportunities, hold government accountable and tip the scales of inequality back in favor of hard-working Oregonians.
