Today I am thinking of them

The last few weeks have highlighted how much we still have to do to combat the evils of racism, violence, and cruelty in our country.

But we owe much of the progress we've made to people like my late friend and hero, John Lewis, and Dr. King, who both taught us with their words, actions, and ultimately their sacrifices, that each of us have a role in the fight for equality and justice. Today, I am thinking of them, and what they would have wanted for our country during this difficult time.

We must overcome the hate, division, and disenfranchisement that the Trump Administration has touted for four years, and emerge a greater and more empathetic nation. I am confident that with Joe Biden as Commander in Chief, and Kamala Harris as our nation's first women, Asian American, and Black Vice President we can begin to heal and tackle the challenges of our nation head- on.

I am eager for the 117th Congress to address and begin to heal the wounds of social, economic and racial injustice that has poisoned the American dream for too many. We are in a position to overcome COVID-19, to rebuild our economy and crumbling infrastructure, to reform our criminal justice system for the good of all Americans, to demand better and more affordable healthcare, and expand access to the ballot and voting rights.

We are poised to restore the rights and will of the people. I look forward to the work we will do together to move our country into a brighter future. I will never stop fighting for the liberty and justice of all people.
