Last week, the House voted to pass President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. Build Back Better is a sweeping economic recovery package and is fully funded by ensuring big corporations and the wealthy finally pay their fair share so it won't raise our deficit and doesn't raise taxes for Americans making under $400,000 a year.
I voted yes to invest in families from the bottom up.
Here are just some of the ways Build Back Better will help Oregon families:
✅ Reduces child poverty. Expands the child tax credit to help parents make ends meet.
✅ Expands Medicaid Coverage. Expands coverage for elder care and for people with disabilities.
✅ Reduces the Cost of Prescription Drugs. Caps the amount Medicare recipients pay per year on prescription drugs, including a monthly cap of $35 for insulin.
✅ Boosts clean energy. Strong investments in the production of electric vehicles, solar, and wind power and reducing the costs for consumers to make the switch.
✅ Puts people to work fighting climate change. Creates a Civilian Climate Corps to put 300,000 people to work fighting climate change and bolstering climate resilience.
✅ Cuts taxes for middle-class families. Cuts taxes for the vast majority of families while making the top 1% pay their fair share.
✅ Universal Pre-K. Provides early learning for every 3 and 4 year old in America.
From paid family leave to the modernization of our electrical grid, there's still much more work to be done. I will keep fighting in Congress to pass bold and progressive legislation that will transform our energy economy and ensure families have every opportunity to succeed.
Build Back Better is a strong step in the right direction. It's long past time we leave behind the failed trickle-down policies by Republicans and invest in families first and foremost.
Now, the Senate needs to do its job and pass this bill!
