Flip the House Red to Blue

Forty open seats. Twenty-five (and counting) vulnerable Republican incumbents. Democrats only need 23 seats to take back the House.

That's why I'm making a major investment in a Red to Blue campaign to elect strong Democratic leaders in red districts who will restore checks and balances to Washington, D.C. and hold the Trump administration accountable.

These Red to Blue candidates will stand up for environmental issues and labor protection laws. They are health care champions and public servants. They'll advocate a better deal for the people.

These candidates have tremendous potential and they're our best chance at winning back the house.

Katie Hill, CA-25

The daughter of a police officer and a registered nurse, Katie Hill is a lifelong resident of the 25th Congressional District. Before running for Congress, Katie served as Executive Director of PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), the largest homeless services organization in California. Under Katie’s leadership, in just four years PATH helped more than 7,000 individuals, veterans, and families move off the streets and into permanent housing. Katie attended public schools in the 25th District and holds a BA and Master’s from Cal State University Northridge. Katie lives with her husband on a small farm in Agua Dulce.

Mike Levin, CA-49

Democratic candidate Mike Levin was raised in South Orange County, and later attended Stanford University. After college, Mike served in the Coro Fellows Program and then attended Duke University School of Law. He then served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Orange County, and has worked as an attorney focused on environmental and energy regulatory compliance and government affairs. Mike is a passionate believer in clean energy and has over a decade of experience in the industry, helping to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable power generation and transportation options. Mike has served for several years on the board of the Center for Sustainable Energy, based in San Diego, and co-founded Sustain OC in Orange County. Mike lives in San Juan Capistrano with his wife, Chrissy, and their two young children.

Kim Schrier, WA-08

Dr. Kim Schrier has spent her career as a pediatrician helping thousands of families across the 8th District. Since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a teenager, Kim understands what it means to worry about health insurance and the rising costs of health care. As a doctor, Kim’s voice is a vital one sorely missing from conversations on women’s health care and reproductive rights. Kim is the product of public education, from elementary through medical school, including a degree in astrophysics from UC Berkeley. She lives in Issaquah with her husband and 9-year-old son.

Gina Ortiz Jones, TX-23

Gina Ortiz Jones is an Iraq War veteran who went to college on an ROTC scholarship and served as a U.S. Air Force intelligence officer under "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell." After her career in the Air Force, she advised on intelligence operations in Latin America and Africa, before advising on economic and national security issues in the Executive Office of the President. Gina is running for Congress in the district she grew up in and a district that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. Her national security experience and commitment to middle-class families is why she is the candidate to flip this district in 2018.

Aftab Pureval, OH-01

Aftab Pureval made history in 2016 when he was elected Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, defeating a Republican incumbent and becoming the first Democratic clerk in more than 100 years. During his tenure, Aftab ended patronage, cut fees, and saved taxpayers nearly $900,000. He invested in the people who serve at the courthouse by paying a living wage and offering paid family leave. The Cincinnati Enquirer said Aftab’s leadership is making a real difference for the people of Hamilton County. Previously, Aftab worked as an attorney at Procter and Gamble and was a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuting crimes against children. Aftab and his fiancée live in Cincinnati.

Abby Finkenauer, IA-01

Abby, a first-generation college graduate and Iowa State Representative, launched her campaign in April and is a proven advocate for working families. This is a historically Democratic district -- President Obama won twice -- that represents a top takeover opportunity for Democrats. An NBC News profile designated Abby as the candidate with what it takes to win.

Peter DeFazio's common-sense proposals aim to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health care and develop options outside of the for-profit marketplace, restore economic and educational opportunities, hold government accountable and tip the scales of inequality back in favor of hard-working Oregonians.
